About Us
The Political Science Association of Wilson College was established in 1992 and is one of the most prominent student run body in the college.
The Association in its very first year of existence organized an exhibition of 15 political systems in the world. The exhibition received wide press coverage and was also exhibited in the Mantralaya. The Association also arranged a visit to the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra in the same year.
In the year 1994-95, the Association’s magazine ‘The Voice’ was launched during the Political Science fest. Efforts were made to revive the Association in 2003-04, but circumstances and inertia came in the way of activities.
PSA gained a whole new momentum in the year 2010, when it hosted interactive sessions on prominent issues such as corruption, trends in politics, etc, curated by eminent speakers. However the activities of the Association gradually declined over the years, till its revival in the academic year 2017-2018.
The Political Science Association ever since its revival in the academic year 2017-18 has remained an active body in the college. Despite the specificity of its name, the Association is all inclusive and provides a wide scope for students across departments for increasing their political awareness and exposure to diverse perspectives. PSA has a democratically elected body which facilitates its functioning. By far it remains the only elected functional body in our college.
PSA continues to spread awareness and sensitise people regarding various socio-political issues and offers a platform to engage in effective discourses. This is done through various activities that PSA conducts throughout the year such as debates, interactive sessions etc. PSA has hosted many eminent, nationally and internationally recognised personalities. Independence Week, Human Rights week and *Youth Parliament have been some of the key events that the Association has been continuously conducting since 2017, along with field visits and heritage walks. As PSA strongly believes in democratic values, the Association has occasionally released statements against events that it perceived to be against the ideas of democracy.
*PSA has only started organizing the Youth Parliament in association with the Arts Circle from 2018 onwards.
