Contribution Guidelines

Content

  1. Posts should be roughly between 250-1000 words. If you would like to submit a longer post, please include a justification for this longer length.

  2. Posts should have a strong link to human rights. The topic does not need to be doctrinal, but there should be some reflection of how the piece relates to human rights.

  3. The text and photos of your submission must respect principles of confidentiality. Do not include revealing or identifying information of someone or photos of someone who has not given their consent to be photographed.

  4. If your piece is published with us, and you later wish to cross-post your piece elsewhere, we request that you include a note there indicating that a version of your piece was first published on the PSA’s Human Rights Blog, and link to your post on our platform accordingly.

Sources

  1. Posts should be well supported by outside sources. All quotes and statistics should be linked to a source. The number of sources needed will vary by piece, but the more sources the better for concluding your claims and also directing your viewers to further readings.

  2. To cite a source, please embed the link onto the relevant word or words to which it refers.

  3. Your post must be entirely your own work. All ideas and information from other sources must be properly cited.

Photos

  1. Posts must include at least one high-resolution photo, which will be presented as the thumbnail image for the post. You may also want to include other photos throughout the piece, particularly for longer pieces to break up the text, but it is optional.

  2. To include a photo, please paste the image in the document at the place in the text which you would like it to appear. Underneath the photo, include a short caption (about one sentence) and the source of the photo. If it is your own photo, list your name. If the image is not your own, please ensure it is public domain, licence-free or otherwise authorised for this use.

Author Information

  1. Please submit a short bio and a headshot photo of the Author/s. If you do not want your photo to be included, please let us know. Your short bio will also be included at the bottom of your post.

  2. The PSA features each blog post on the Institute’s social media pages: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. If you have accounts on these platforms and would like us to tag you in the posts, please share your social media handles with us.

Timeline

  1. Once we receive your submission, it will be reviewed by the Political Science Association. We will endeavour to post all submissions that conform with the guidelines above.

  2. Once published, the PSA will feature your post on the association’s social media pages. We highly encourage you to also share it with your social networks.
