Statement #2 of PSA 2020-21

International Human Rights Day is observed on 10 December. Therefore, on account of that the PSA released a statement on 10 December 2020.

The statement is as follows -

"To deny people their Human rights is to challenge their very humanity."

~ Nelson Mandela

On account of Human Rights Day ( 10 December ), the PSA would like to request everyone reading this to ponder upon the rights of human beings.

Today, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( UDHR ).

Let's take a moment to think about the history, issues, concerns faced by religious minorities, sexual minorities, to those who are denied rights because they belong to a particular caste, religion, nationality or sex. More importantly, to those human beings who are denied rights just because they exist!

This day let's give solidarity to those who have lost their loved ones due to discrimination, structural or entrenched. People affected by wars, war crimes, refugees - within the country or inter-country. Children whose education has been affected either because of poverty or lack of access or gender. People imprisoned and released due to wrongful conviction.

Let's listen to what the indigenous communities have to say, the elderly, persons with disabilities or to those who are protesting. Care for people with mental illness.

It's time that laws are gender inclusive.

There is a need for strong laws to protect men and people beyond binaries against sexual violence.

Laws should be implemented and accountability maintained, especially regarding violence against women where attempts are made to dilute protective legislation in the name of so-called misuse.

It's time we create a safe place - at home or at the workplace, irrespective of the gender one belongs to.

Climate change threatens the very existence of a soul. It displaces people, affects their homes, means of livelihood or mental health. An entire nation faces the fear of submersion due to climate change.

Every one of us has the power and ability to change things that we find are wrong. Today, let's take a moment to think and act on 'Human Rights Day'.

To end this message, let's also stand in solidarity with the non-humans too. Why not give them the same rights that we, as humans, claim for ourselves?

Thankyou,

Team PSA.
